Check the inputs behind a car finance redress offer
An online estimate and a lender's calculation can differ for legitimate reasons. Start by comparing the evidence and assumptions, not just the final amount.
Questions to check
- Is it the same agreement? Match the lender, reference, start date and amount of credit.
- Are the figures evidenced? Compare APR, commission, term, actual payments and any settlement or balloon. Identify which figures are estimated.
- What arrangement and remedy were used? Ask how the lender assessed the relevant commission arrangement, disclosure and any exclusion, and why its chosen remedy applies.
- What dates and interest were used? Compare the calculation date and the treatment of compensatory interest.
- Were any caps or adjustments applied? Ask for the calculation and the supporting figures, including the treatment of early settlement.
A request you can adapt
Please explain the inputs and method used for the redress calculation for my agreement. In particular, please identify the amount of credit, APR, commission, repayment and settlement information, relevant arrangement, remedy, compensatory-interest dates and rates, and any caps or adjustments. Please explain any estimated figures and how they were obtained, and tell me the route and deadline for raising questions about your response.
Add your agreement reference only when sending this through the lender's verified channel. This is an information request, not a statement that the offer is wrong.
Before deciding what to do
Read the response's explanation and any applicable deadline. Use current FCA consumer guidance and the lender's stated process. An estimate on this site cannot establish that an offer is incorrect or tell you whether to accept it. Read how estimates work and their limitations before using a comparison.
