Who is my car finance lender?

The name on your car finance - a dealer, a manufacturer, a store card - often isn't the company that actually lent the money and owes you any redress. Search the 717 trading names below to find the lender behind your agreement, then claim a commission refund for free.

Covers 717 trading brands across 105 FCA-listed motor finance lenders. Need wording to contact your lender? Use our free car finance complaint email & letter template, or open the calculator to estimate any redress.

Why your dealer isn't your lender

When you took out car finance, a dealer or broker arranged it - but a separate lender (the finance company) actually lent the money, holds your agreement, and is who you claim redress from. The two are usually different companies, and the name on your paperwork is often a dealer, a manufacturer's finance brand or a store name rather than the lender itself. To make a commission-refund claim you need the lender's name.

How to find your car finance lender

• Your credit agreement - the lender's legal name is on it (look in the small print, not the big logo).
• Your statutory credit report - Experian, Equifax and TransUnion all list the lender by name, free.
• Your bank statements - the name on the monthly direct debit is usually the lender or its servicer.
• The finder above - type the dealer, manufacturer or store name on your paperwork and we'll map it to the lender.

Frequently asked questions

Why isn't my car dealer my lender?

The dealer or broker arranged your finance and earned commission, but a separate finance company - the lender - actually lent the money and holds your agreement. Redress for undisclosed commission is claimed against the lender, not the dealer.

How do I find out who my car finance is with?

Check your credit agreement (the lender's legal name is on it, often in the small print rather than the logo), your statutory credit report from Experian, Equifax or TransUnion, or the company name on your direct debit. Or type the brand on your paperwork into the finder above.

The brand on my agreement isn't a well-known bank - is it still a lender?

Often the brand is a dealer, manufacturer or store name and the actual FCA-regulated lender is a different company. The finder above maps 700+ such trading names to the lender behind them.

Can I claim if I only know the dealer or brand name?

Yes. Find the underlying lender first using the finder, then complain to that lender directly - for free - and keep 100% of any redress.
